nine months later
the challenge
Find a story from a podcast and collect content to use in the design of a chapbook—a short, inexpensive DIY book that typically contains poetry
or short stories.
the approach
I listened to several interesting and/or entertaining podcasts, but none of them grabbed my attention and sucked me in more than Nine Months Later—a story following several girls and women who got pregnant when Roe vs. Wade got overturned. It dives into their perspectives, emotional turmoil, and explains to us what they went through during that time. Nine Months Later, we learn the outcomes of their individual journeys.
With such a heavy theme, I wanted to keep the design light as not to overshadow the stories being told. It captures the somber overtones and visually mirrors the women's feelings of not being in control, not having access to the proper medical care, and mental anguish of these life-long repercussions—regardless of successfully having an abortion or going through with the pregnancy.
